When Abraham Lincoln was informed that General Ulysses S. Grant was a drunk he responded: Tell me what brand of whiskey that Grant drinks, I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals.
Given the sinister chorus of accusations of mental incapacity now being lodged against President Trump, we should insist that samples of his brand of craziness be sent to all our politicians. Indeed, President Trump has just concluded one of the most successful first years in office of any president in American history.
The cacophonous clamor of the arm-chair psychologists, many of whom employ the usual phony British accent as they spout their pseudo-scientific jargon, is now reaching the decibels of a crescendo and, given the language of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, this coordinated effort should be understood for what it is, as a possible coup d'état in the making. Now that the Mueller investigation is rapidly fizzling into irrelevancy, and the constant barrage of coordinated media hate has gone nowhere, the enemies of the president may be resorting to an attempt to drive him from office through personal smear. The 25th Amendment, which was passed February 10, 1967, states that if the president is deemed unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, he is to be replaced by the Vice President.
The use of psychology as a weapon of the left is nothing new as this type of left-wing agitprop has crept out of the woodwork during virtually every election going back to the denunciation of Barry Goldwater in 1965. Recent examples employed include all the experts psychologizing about George W. Bush, Newt Gingrich, and Mitt Romney who was called a psychopath in 2012 by liberal host David Pakman. The psychology weapon was muted in the Obama years as the cudgel of choice for the left was to call anyone who opposed Obama for any reason a racist. It should be noted that it is rare for a so-called progressive like Barack Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, et al. to ever be psychologized.
Indeed, psychology is a relatively young field, one that was politicized by the left from the beginning. The psychologist would eventually take the place of the cleric as the recipient of confession except, with psychoanalysis there is no absolution or acknowledgement of the existence of sin. Indeed, judgment of right and wrong, in the psychological context, is viewed as prejudicial and, as such, un-objective and un-scientific. This view, wrapped as it is in the garment of science, forms the morally relativistic worldview of the left. It is this type of flexibility, this twisting of what is otherwise a legitimate study of the human psyche, that allows the left to speak with absolute certainty as they pass physiological judgment on their opposition.
Indeed, in their hermetically sealed world, with their minds trapped in an ideological cage, the left must view a person such as Donald Trump as mentally ill. This is the only way they can explain to themselves why he and other non-leftists don’t genuflect to the left. To acknowledge otherwise, to contemplate the possibility that there might be views that don’t comport to their own, views that might be taken seriously, would cause their entire steel-trapped ideology to shake. Since nothing must be allowed to shake their cage, they have almost no choice but to view their opponent as mentally ill. By making this subjective charge, they are saying that the targeted person should not be listened to and that anything he might say is to be viewed as illegitimate. This is how they preserve their own fragile universe while at the same time denouncing and in some cases destroying outside threats.
Donald Trump is far from a perfect person but his psyche holds up quite well when contrasted with his opponents. A good example is his recent response to the New Year speech delivered by North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un where he threatened a nuclear holocaust by mentioning that he keeps a nuclear button on his desk. Trump met the rhetorical threat head on and for this he is characterized as mentally ill. Yet after 20 years of response to identical threats by the left, responses that could be described as at best constituting appeasement and at worst collaboration, one might ask who is actually insane?
