Pelosi complains about “crumbs”
Perhaps the reason the Trump haters have become so shrill
lately is because every time they wade into a real policy critique they come
off looking ridiculous. Case in point is Democratic Minority Leader Nancy
Pelosi’s now infamous observation that the $1,000 plus bonuses offered to rank
and file employees by companies such as Home Depot, Fiat Chrysler, Wells Fargo
and Starbucks, not to mention raises in the minimum wage and the expansion in
investment that will lead to more domestic production and jobs, all a direct
result of the Trump tax cuts, are “crumbs.”
Certainly, for Pelosi, one of the richest members of Congress
with an estate worth over a billion dollars, a thousand dollars is a “crumb”
but this is not the case for a working family. Indeed, an extra thousand
dollars might mean new clothes for a child starting school or a meal at a
restaurant other than McDonalds. Perhaps Pelosi should be asked if she plans to
offer a “crumb” to her non-union employees at her California vineyards and
hotels.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is worth $15 million, and who earned an estimated $325,000 teaching one class at Harvard University, joined disgraced Senator Al Franken for a series available
on Youtube in which she predicted that workers would see no benefits from the
Trump tax cuts since “it
never works that way, it hasen’t worked that way.” Warren erroneously declared in the interview
that the tax cuts would only benefit the investors and CEO’s, that the benefits
would not be applied toward expansion. Every democrat voted against the biggest
tax cut since World War II, a tax cut that is having massive positive
reverberations across the economy. They ought to be held accountable in the
mid-terms.
The Democrats like to claim they champion the cause of the
middle class and the working poor but what, really, do they have to offer? They
mask their lack of a coherent agenda with an ugly appeal to class envy. Rather
than pay attention to our own plight, the fact that we pay upwards of 40% of
our hard-earned income to the government in taxes and other fees, they hope we
look covetously at our more successful neighbor as they indirectly promise to
rip that neighbor off and transfer some of the loot to us. While they appeal to
the darker side of our nature, they use their own political positions to enrich
themselves.
They hope that we don’t notice how rich they became in
office. The Clintons, Barack Obama, and an extensive list of mostly Democrats
and some Republicans left office a lot richer then when they entered.
Meanwhile, they criticize Republicans like Donald Trump and Mitt Romney who
earned their wealth in the private sector. Ironically, the annual Forbes
Magazine list of richest Americans shows that liberal Democrats make up the
majority of the richest. The top ten richest include notable liberals such as
Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and others.
